Starlink – Satellite Broadband or a Pocket Traveler

Starlink – Satellite Broadband or a Pocket Traveler

If you have a satellite broadband service at your home, will you be able to use that internet facility at the top of the Himalayas or the Kovalam beach? Yes, you will be able to.

Starlink Satellite Broadband is going to provide you same kind of facility later this year, which can be used during your wandering, and for this, you will not have to spend a single penny separately. Your present wired broadband service can not even think about such facility. Elon Musk’s Starlink Satellite Broadband service will provide seamless connectivity also at your weekend trip destinations.

What is Geo-Restriction?

Currently, this service has Geo-Restriction. That means, where you have installed it for the first time, it will only work at that location. But Starlink has said that they are going to remove Geo-Restriction by the end of this year.

This service is going to benefit Indian subscribers a lot if Geo-Restriction is removed completely. According to Starlink, by the end of this year, some more satellites will be put into orbit, so if you go anywhere in India, you will able to get the same quality of internet service that you get in your home. It is almost like when we go for an outing; we pack the homemade food so that we can get homely food for some time.

For this, Starlink will have to make some changes in some of its hardware and software. Starlink satellite is currently in broadband beta version. Pre-booking sale is also on. You can check the availability at your location at any time by going to Starlink’s website, whether this service is active in your location or not.

Elon Musk hopes to come out of the beta version in June and start the full fledge service

Service Enhancement

Starlink is not only removing Geo-Restriction but is also going to improve its service quality as well. It includes increasing the internet speed from 150 Mbps to 300 Mbps. Apart from this, Starlink is also trying to bring down the network latency below 20 ms During the beta testing phase. Currently, it has a network latency of 20 to 40 ms. With this, you are going to get an even better browsing experience. This feature will probably be added while coming out of the beta version in India and go in full swing. The Starlink satellite dish will be installed on the roof or balcony of your houses or any place where no wall, structure or tree can obstruct to receive the signal.

How to Subscribe Starlink Satellite Broadband Service

First of all, you have to select Starlink App from your android or iPhone. With this app, you’ll find out if satellite broadband service is available in your location. If present at your location, then you can pay Rs 7000 which is entirely refundable. You can take this 7000 whenever you want. You have to make this payment by debit card/credit card or Apple pay. However, Apple Pay is still not recognized in India.

When you pay 7000 to get Starlink satellite broadband service, in return, the company provides you with a Kit. The kit consists of a satellite dish, a tripod, and a Wi-Fi router.

The target of Starlink Company is to provide you with world-class satellite broadband service with 1Gbps internet speed with less than 20 ms latency. But for this, more satellites will have to be sent to orbit and it is very important to do satellite constellation.

Conclusion

How quickly this service starts in India will be a matter to be seen. In the end, I also inform you that you can move this broadband service anywhere but the dish antenna will not be too small to fit into the pocket.
